This blog post is taken from my blog (https://kieranmurphy151.wordpress.com/) for my digital media module. This video was a group project, the article describes what parts of the video I made and my thoughts on the project
Terry Wogan Group Video
I found this assignment to be quite interesting to make, I didn’t find it particularly difficult however a large amount of time and logistics were required
I had several roles in the creation of the video. At the start of the process I did some basic research to plan what shots were needed. Once we were at the statue I filmed some of the shots, using a shot list I created to capture everything that was required. I took multiple angles and cutaways including a timelapse to set the location. For the filming I used a smartphone to record for ease of use , however I attached it to a tripod to avoid jittery footage to give it a polished look. I assisted in the recording of a script that was prepared by one of the other members. I found a suitable area to record that was carpeted to avoid echo and an area free of background noise. I also set out the filing structure on the recorder to make for easy editing. I then edited the video. I edited it completely in Final Cut Pro X. I used this for its quick editing style as I did not need to do any extra work such as color grading as the video was shot on a phone in a profile that did not need grading to save time. I used blending effects in final cut to create the stencil title and then used keyframes to move a crop to create the swipe on the graphical element in the middle of the video. As I was not sure if I would be allowed to use copyright free music in this assignment as it technically would not be my work. I created a simple 3 chord melody in Logic Pro X and repeated it for the length of the video to allow the different audio cuts to blend together. If I was doing the video again I would shoot on a heavier camera and tripod with a zoom lens for better creativity with shots and focus and also to avoid shake as it was very windy. I would also record more shots as I had to reuse some. I would also record the audio on a audio recorder in a better room with more effort on quality and getting it perfect. If I had more time I would have also liked to interview people regarding the statue and get some opinions. |
